The city of Paris receives millions of visitors every year, many of whom travel to the city for the sole purpose of attending one of the many events, exhibitions and conferences held in the region. These events occur throughout the year and many people often plan their trips to coincide with them. Among the thousands of events hosted in Paris, there are some that should definitely be on your must attend list. This guide lists five of the best must attend events in Paris.

1. Carnaval de Paris - This carnival is a must-attend event for anyone who is visiting Paris during the month of February. This legendary event features a masquerade and a float parade that thousands of Parisians and expatriates gather to see. The event is colourful and highly entertaining and allows everyone to participate.

2. Bastille Day - Every year on the 14th of July, the people of Paris gather together to commemorate the storming of the Bastille marking the beginning of the French Revolution in the year 1789. It was on this day that the country was freed from a tyrannical monarchy and as a result Parisians celebrate this day as a French National holiday. Tourists visiting the city at this time will see some of the most stunning fireworks displays all across the region.

3. French Open - For those of you who enjoy tennis, the French Open, which is one of the four tennis grand slams, is a must-see event. Although tickets may be a little expensive, it is also possible to get a good deal by booking early. Attendees will be able to watch as some of the greatest names in tennis battle it out for two weeks at the Roland Garros clay court stadium.

4. Autumn Festival - Paris is known for its dedication to the arts, with some of the greatest artists in the world having lived in this city. The Autumn Festival is a showcase of all the performing arts, including the opera, dance, film and theatre. This festival often features some of the biggest names in the art world, and must definitely be on your must-see list if you are visiting the city in autumn.

5. Le Tour de France - This is one of the most prestigious bicycle races in the world, and takes place every July. It is a great honour to watch the finalists of this race as they cycle towards the finishing line on the Champs-Elysees.
